An Evening with Wagashi Master Junichi Mitsubori
Date: June 10, Monday at 6:30PM
Venue: Asia Society, 725 Park Avenue (at 70th Street) New York, NY 10021
Join us for a special demonstration by Master Junichi Mitsubori of wagashi, the making of artisanal Japanese deserts. Akin to the precision and refinement of the Japanese tea ceremony (花道), Kadō -- the Way of Wagashi (菓道) — transforms traditional sweet-making into a form of consumable art.
Master Mitsubori crafts the nerikiri (bean paste with mochi ) with his hands, scissors and needles into intricate creations like those in the image on the left. Master Mitsubori’s talent has been showcased at prestigious venues around the world, including the Sydney Opera House in Australia and the Salon du Chocolat in Paris. It is truly a sight to behold. The demonstration will be followed by a Q&A moderated by Asia Society’s Global Initiatives Assistant Director, Yoshie Ito and a reception to sample Master Mitsubori’s confectionery masterpieces.
